SNEAKER STORAGE TIPS
Best practices for storing your collection.
The best habit is to wipe your sneakers down after every wear and perform a full cleaning every 2–4 weeks, depending on how often you wear them. Dirt left on materials for long periods can cause stains, discoloration, and premature aging. Regular maintenance keeps your sneakers looking newer for longer and makes deep cleaning much easier.
We don't recommend it.
Washing machines can weaken adhesives, damage materials, distort the shape of your sneakers, and reduce their lifespan. Hand cleaning with the proper Kixs Life products provides a deeper clean while protecting leather, suede, mesh, canvas, and specialty materials.
Our Kixs Life Shoe Cleaner, Soft Upper Brush, and Microfiber Towel are designed to be safe on most common sneaker materials, including:
✔ Leather
✔ Suede
✔ Nubuck
✔ Mesh
✔ Canvas
✔ Knit
✔ Rubber
✔ Synthetic materials
Always spot test in an inconspicuous area first, and use the correct brush for each material to achieve the best results.
Yellowing is caused primarily by oxidation, UV exposure, heat, and environmental contaminants.
To slow the process:
✔ Clean soles regularly.
✔ Store sneakers away from direct sunlight.
✔ Keep shoes in a cool, dry environment.
✔ Use sneaker bags or boxes for long-term storage.
✔ Avoid excessive heat and humidity.
If your soles have already yellowed, our Kixs Life Sole Sauce can help restore clarity when used correctly with a UV light or natural sunlight, following our Sole Icing Guide.
Store sneakers in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity.
For the best long-term protection:
✔ Clean your sneakers before storing them.
✔ Insert shoe trees to maintain shape.
✔ Keep pairs in breathable storage boxes.
✔ Avoid stacking heavy items on top of them.
✔ Never store damp sneakers.
Proper storage extends the life of both the materials and the structure of your sneakers.
Minor creases can often be reduced using a combination of shoe trees, controlled heat, and patience.
We recommend:
✔ Insert shoe trees or crease protectors.
✔ Lightly dampen a microfiber towel.
✔ Place the towel over the crease.
✔ Carefully apply low heat using an iron or heat gun (never directly on the shoe).
✔ Allow the sneaker to cool completely with the shoe trees still inserted.
For deep creases or luxury sneakers, we recommend using our professional restoration service to avoid damaging the material.
Our care experts are ready to help you keep your sneakers in the best shape.
